Healthy Ride Unicorn Bikes Hit the Streets
If you’re anything like us, the city’s Healthy Ride bike rental stations likely already catch your eye and inspire thoughts of weekend rides along Pittsburgh’s rivers. Starting this month, however, a handful of bikes are about to get a whole lot more eye-catching with the introduction of Healthy Ride’s Unicorn Bikes, a collaboration with some of the city’s best artists.
On Saturday, July 15, Healthy Ride unveiled its fleet of five Unicorn Bikes at the Night Market in Market Square. Each one of these colorful, hand-painted bicycles features its own distinct design, all dreamed up and brought to life by local artists. They’re known as “unicorn bikes” because of their custom-paint jobs that is sure to turn some heads on the roads!
While the Unicorn Bikes project aims to beautify our Pittsburgh neighborhoods by adding mobile art projects to the streets, it’s also a great way to showcase the work of local artists who’s backgrounds range from graphic design to college professor. PPG Paints donated all of the 1Shot! paints used throughout the project and the participating artists were also permitted to use the PPG Paints training facility and staff members to help make their visions a reality.
So here is where you come in. If you happen to spot a Unicorn Bike around the city (or if you’re lucky enough to snag one for yourself), be sure to post a photo on Instagram, tag @HealthyRidePGH and use the hashtag #BurghBikes to be entered for a chance to win different prizes every week.
