Introducing OAT | BIRD, The Ceramics Collab of Our Dreams

Maybe you’re already all about shopping small to support local makers, but what if we told you that you can now shop some of the most stunning ceramics you’ll find in the city and also directly fund a studio space that will turn out even more stunning ceramics? Enter OAT | BIRD, a collaboration between our two Monmade ceramicists, Oatmeal and Bombabird.

Friends and occasional collaborators Elise and Chelsea once shared a love of creating beautiful home goods and wearable objects out of clay, but as time went on, they also discovered a shared a goal of finding a space where they could grow their independent businesses while also working together and supporting one another’s art. When they stumbled upon a light-filled, loft-style space in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood with exposed brick walls and those windows (above), they knew it was the place.

Any small business owner will tell you that it’s not easy to take those next steps in investing in a business, but Elise and Chelsea came up with a brilliant way of joining forces to fund their move into their beautiful new space: they would make even more beautiful items and promote them together, under a shared name, with a call to action that each purchase would directly support their new home base.

Through OAT | BIRD, a limited release of exclusive products from both women, their shared customer base will support the growth of the two artists’ businesses while also allowing customers to add some unique, limited-run pieces to their own collections. The OAT | BIRD collection features Bombabird’s signature textured bud vases and Oatmeal’s recognizable clay and horsehair necklaces, as well as screen-printed tote bags and wearable bandanas with a geometric design created by mutual friend Carla Weeks. Or, if you’re feeling especially generous, you’ll snag one a Package, which includes one of everything all bundled up in a tote bag like a gift to yourself!

And if all this wasn’t enough, you can meet the women of OAT | BIRD with a summery drink in hand while you shop the collection at their open studio event June 2nd. See details below.
