Get Excited — Here’s Your 2019 Three Rivers Arts Festival Preview

The Three Rivers Arts Festival is always one of the biggest events of the summer in the city, and for good reason. With internationally touring acts taking a scenic riverfront stage for multiple days — all completely for free — it’s easy to see why this is one of Pittsburgh’s most impressive festivals.

Arts Fest will take place from June 7 through June 16, 2019, and this year marks the festival’s 60th anniversary. As usual, you can expect performances every night throughout the week and over the weekend from both local and larger acts, as well as a complete artist market and exhibits stretching throughout downtown Pittsburgh.

This year’s lineup is stacked with big name acts and up-and-coming artists. Grammy award-winning soul and R&B singer India.Arie will kick off the festival on Friday, June 7, as well as country legends Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives on Saturday, June 8. J Roddy Walston and the Business bring a modern blend of Southern rock on Tuesday, June 11, and Brooklyn-born indie pop band Lucius are sure to bring a younger crowd on Thursday, June 13.

And since it wouldn’t truly be an arts festival without the art, you’ll also be excited to hear that this year’s Three Rivers Arts Festival is bringing its A-game. The cornerstone of the festival is the juried art exhibition, which features a panel of knowledgeable judges awarding local artists for their best works. Ocean Sole Africa will turn pollution into upcycled art at Gateway Center, and you won’t want to miss the photo ops at Los Trompos, an exhibit featuring colorful, giant spinning tops made with traditional Mexican weaving techniques at Point State Park. Origami, by Compagnie Furinkaï co-presented with the Pittsburgh Dance Council, features gravity-defying dance choreography over a 40-foot shipping container, so if you’re looking for some seriously exciting art, you won’t want to miss it.
