Everything We’re Lusting After From the IKEA – Hay Collaboration
What do you get when you take IKEA known for its affordable, multi-use furnishings and combine it with a Danish design darling known for its luxury take on colorful minimalism? You’d likely get IKEA’s new collaboration with HAY, one of Denmark’s most beloved contemporary furniture brands.
The YPPERLIG collection includes low-priced takes on HAY’s most recognizable styles… and we’re swooning over just about all of it. Where some IKEA items are too functional to really feel beautiful, the pieces in the YPPERLIG collection take the best of both companies’ worlds: the smart design of IKEA furniture with the rich colors, matte textures and slender Danish design of HAY. Plus, since the most expensive thing in the collection is an $600 sofa, it’s a great way to inject major style into your place on a serious budget just in time for your NYE party. Now, just practice the coy smile you’ll give your friends when they ask, “Where did you get that?!”
Is it odd that this silly little stool just might be our favorite thing from the whole line? It’s proof that if you do something really right, it can make even the most basic item look totally eye-catching and statement-y. We’re imagining a few of these lining a co-working desk, at either end of a dining table or even next to your bed as a fun take on a nightstand.
One of the best parts of this collaboration is that HAY chose to use the signature color combinations that the brand is known for. We love these unique combinations of bold yet earthy greens, blues and deep purples, as well as the matte finish that makes it look way more expensive than the actual $24.99 to $35.99 price range.
Okay, so calling this little guy a “bed” might be a bit of a stretch since it doesn’t technically fold down, but we’re willing to look past that detail since the design is just so good. The wooden legs give it a bit of the Danish design that we love, but the floating back and chic grey color make it look arty and almost futuristic. If you’re really concerned with the “bed” aspect, it may help to know that the seat has the same construction as a pocket sprung mattress, so what it lacks in true mattress size it makes up for in comfort when the rogue out-of-town friend sleeps over.
Use one alone to make a statement or three together to make an even bigger, more colorful statement. These mirrors feature little pocket shelves at the bottom, so we’re envisioning using them to house your keys in an entryway or your skincare products in the bathroom.
Continuing with the sort of “floating” theme, this set of three side tables is unlike any other nesting set we’ve seen. When they’re used separately, they all sit on the ground at varying heights, but when they’re put together for storage, the smaller two hang from small wooden rods underneath — perfect for saving space in a small apartment before popping out to display snacks and drinks when friends come over.
